Welcome to United Spinal Association Illinois Chapter

The United Spinal Association Illinois Chapter is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing information and support resources for people paralyzed by trauma and medical conditions, family members, and health care and related professionals that serve the SCI community. Our office is located in Palos Heights, IL, a suburb of Chicago, but we serve the entire state.

United Spinal Association Illinois Chapter (USAIC) is a place where people can get information, take part in programs, attend events and meet peers.  Some of the things we do are:

Peer Support: Take advantage of the knowledge gained by those ahead of you in the SCI world. Groups meet virtually and in person, and one-on-one peer contacts can be arranged. No matter how you do it, keep in touch with others with SCI!

Peer contacts are invaluable!

“Living with Spinal Cord Injury” is a program for health professionals and health science students. Audiences engage with speakers to learn what it is like to sustain a SCI and the daily impact on one’s life. Share your story and help make great care givers!

Injury Prevention: Members talk with school kids about simple things they can do to prevent injuries, and to senior citizens about preventing falls.  People listen more when the speaker speaks from experience!

Advocacy: It couldn’t be easier to let legislators know where you stand on issues that impact the lives of people with disabilities, than by joining the USA Grassroots Advocacy efforts. You just sign up, get occasional emails about issues, click on a prepared message and in seconds your legislators know your opinion.

Equipment donations: Members are contacted by email when donated equipment is offered. Anyone interested is put in touch with donors who determine who will receive items. Most things are given on a first come first served basis. Donations can include wheelchairs, hospital beds, supplies, etc.
